Biking in Lycia

Biking in the Land of Light

Lycia   means   land   of   light.   It   is   the   name   of   an   ancient   region   between   the   modern-day towns    of    Fethiye    and    Antalya.    It    is    situated    next    to    the    glistening    waters    of    the mediterranean   where   its   rugged   coastline   is   a   feature   of   our   biking   tours.   Inland   we   find dense   forest   covering   coastal   plains   and   steep   mountain   valleys.   Further   inland   we   can   find high   pastures   ringed   by   the   majestic   Toros   mountain   peaks.   In   other   words   a   magical   land for biking! The   land   is   settled   by   farmers,   fishermen,   shepherds   and   market   gardeners.   Until   very recently   most   of   these   people   lived   a   nomadic   existence   and   many   still   retain   an   element of   their   nomadic   life   as   they   move   their   sheep   and   goats   up   to   high   pastures   in   the   summer and   back   to   the   coast   for   the   colder   months.   These   are   some   of   the   most   welcoming people you can meet. their generous hospitality is truly legendary. Lycia   has   a   long   and   vigorous   history.   The   name   Lycia   comes   from   the   Hittite   word   Lukka and   dates   the   settlement   of   the   area   back   to   at   least   2,000   years   BC.   There   are   also   a number   of   pre-historic   sites   in   the   area.   Our   tours   aim   to   take   you   to   some   of   the   most interesting and often well know sites and to a few hidden gems as well.
