Canoeing on the Göksu River

A Canoe Enthusiast’s Ideal Holiday

Turkey is a great value destination. Unfortunately much of the beauty and grandeur of the country’s rugged geology remains unknown to the majority of the tourists heading for the well known coastal resorts. In the hinterland, not so far from those same resorts is a treasure trove for adventurers. This is a land of huge, forested mountains where rivers carve out deep canyons and gorges and where the water flows all year round. As water is the source of all life it is not surprising that these rivers have attracted settlers going as far back as the early biblical times. We have an itinerary for backpacking canoeists that explores these hidden jewels and takes time to not only enjoy the natural wonders and adventures on offer, but also to learn about and bear witness to ancient civilisations. But Turkey’s traditions and heritage are not all about dried old bones and ancient cities. The hinterland is also home to a traditional lifestyle that has remained largely unchanged in decades. As we travel we will meet local people going about their daily business. These are a warm and cheerful people with welcoming smiles and the time and culture to offer some splendid hospitality. This itinerary involves 5 days camping beside the Göksu River as we follow it towards the coast. The itinerary is all about backpack canoeing and you will need to bring your own canoe. It is suitable for experienced canoeists who understand that backpacking your canoe is not a luxury trip. It is challenging in places but with some great rewards. We are currently looking for a UK (or maybe US) agent to work with us in offering this trip. We are happy to take bookings from registered canoeing clubs that might consider it for a club trip. Unfortunately we do not currently offer this trip to individuals who are looking to join a group. For a Detailed Itinerary Click Below
